"Write down who you were, who you are, and what you want to remember." ~ Natalie Goldberg
The Big Picture
I'm not sure about you, but it has been a long and hard year. Life has had it's ups, but there were a lot of downs. Sometime's if feels like no one knows who you are and sometimes it feels like you don't know who you are.
Sometimes our stories are all we have.
Life is here and gone. And while it seams the bad moments take so much longer and the good moments fly by, we can chose how we are remembered by telling our stories.
We all have one.
So why don't we tell our stories more?
It can be scary. Telling the world the bitter or harsh truth of your life. Or you may think is to boring to be a story. But I mean, com'on, your a writer, edit out the unnecessary or boring stuff and get to the core of the story. Everyone has something worth listening to. Worth being printed.
Think no one will want to read your story?
Well, maybe no one will.
But maybe someday you'll look back at your younger years and wish you had written down some of the lessons you learned, some of those crazy nights with your best friends, and the memories of people you have lost.
Our stories are the most powerful thing we have.
Don't waste life.
Vira & Thane
Okay, stepping away from the soppy stuff for a minute.
While I mainly write fantasy and dystopian, I do want to tell my story.
While I'm not quite sure what that is, I do know I has a lot to say. Writing these blog posts are one way to share my life and my knowledge about really random topics. Even if no one ever reads these, it's there, and it's good writing practice for me.
One story I could share is my life as a diabetic, another as a leader of a non profit organisation (It's true, or as a sister, or even as a student or writer or snowboarder. I could write a book about each aspect of my life and it may not even seam like the main char (Me!) is the same in all of them.
While I am still young I want to write my stories. As years pass memories fade, and if you wait to long your stories will fade, along with you.
And while it may still seam like your all alone, even though your story, your life is out there. Now, someone, somewhere knows your story and might think, my story is worth it, or even that they are worth it.
Vira, on the "Other novels by Vira" Page on her website, has one called The Five of Us. While this is not exactly our story, it is an AU of our story.
"What would happen if your best friend died? You would morn, struggle to overcome your grief. But what if you weren't the only one mourning?" ~ Vira
We have talked for years about what would happen to us if one of our best friends died. How would we cope? What would change? How would we change?
In our friend group there is five of us. Me, my sister (https://povfineart.weebly.com/), Vira, Micaiah (Micaiah is an amazing artist! http://micaiahmeyer.com/), and Ava. And, like I mentioned in my last post, Micaiah was in a car accident and though she only has a minor concussion, it reminded all of us that any moment could be our last.
"Nicole, Rose, Elisabeth, Grace, and LoRay had been best friends for over a decade. They grew up together, laughed together, cried together. They swore that they would always be friends, and they truly believed they would." ~ Vira
I'm actually kinda nervous to read this book when she finishes it, since it's something so close. I know how good of a writer Vira is, and how well she conveys emotion.
So This is What's Up
I guess what I'm trying to say is this; don't be afraid to write your story, even if it's altered a bit. Don't wait till the clock stops. Don't be afraid of what others think. You own everything you know. Your thoughts and how you expirence the world is yours, and worth sharing. Don't give up, don't back down.
Just remember, what we say and what we do can impact many. So make it a good story.
What story do you want to share? Is it about your real life or a AU of your life? Or why haven't you written your story?
Much love,
Thane
