I promise I have a good reason for not posting all summer.
Last minute I decided to volunteer at a summer camp and since it all happened like a whirlwind, I kinda sorta forgot to post about my three month blogging break and didn't have a computer all summer to tell you. So here I am! Ready to defend thee with the power of writing, advice and cool pictures I took myself. So onward lads, let us adventure through another post
together.
Over the summer I did have a change to read some, and so here is my short list of what I read over the summer.
I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells
I stumbled upon this book after I started listening to Writing Excuses, a writing podcast hosted by Dan Wells, Brandon Sanderson, and Howard Tayler. When my parents gifted it to me for my birthday I devoured it as quickly as I could. It was very much outside of what I normally read but the writing style, the characters, and the plot captured my thoughts. I had to get to the end. I had to know more. Once I finished it I went on Amazon and bought the other two in the series, MR. Monster and I Don't Want To Kill You. Both were just as good as the first. In each book there was a scene that I went back a re read multiple times because it was just THAT good. Read it and tell me what you think!
Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
Another book that I picked up because of Writing Excuses. This is a Fantasy novel based of the idea of what if the hero fails? In this instance, thousands of years ago there was a hero, and he failed, and now a group of thieves gets together to right the wrongs done to their people.
I kinda am poor at describing books, but I can promise you that if you like fantasy, this is an awesome read. Sanderson has the coolest magic system I have ever read, amazing world building, and really interesting characters.
Frankenstien by Mary Shelley
Wow. I have heard so much about this classic that I thought I knew what I was preparing to read. But it was a lot different than I thought. And the end as just so so good. If it's been on your to read list for a while and you haven't gotten to it, pick it up. And if you normally don't like classics or whatnot, I actually listened to it on audio book as I did some hand lettering. It's faster than reading it and gives me a change to do something else. It took my five hours to finish it listening at double the normal speed. Try it out.
Lastly, I just started listening to The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and I'm really enjoying it. What books did you read over the summer? Have you read any of these? Leave a comment below! I'd love to talk to you about books!
Much Love,
Thane
p.s. You may have noticed that I normally post on Fridays, but since I had such a long blogging break, I decided to post early. Next week the post will come out on Friday like normal.
